HISTORY OF ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL, OKON.

The present educational standard in Nigeria:

The present standard of education in Nigeria is nothing to narrate. Not only does the fallen standard affect the development of the mind and efficiency, it breeds also all sorts of vices, like intolerance, lack of respect for human lives, committing of crimes without impunity, poverty of the mind and corruption.

St Joseph school is bent on offering a credible alternative to alter this situation and produce a new generation of Nigerians who will appreciate hard work after the model of the Patron of the school, St. Joseph, personal and communal achievement, accepting each other in the society, in short: a new crop of Nigerians who will see corruption as evil and burn it to ashes.

Decision to establish the school:

The low educational standard in Nigeria made the board chairman and founder to meet the community where the school is situated to discuss the possibility of establishing the school. Therefore on 14th April 2013 a meeting was held at the church in the community.

(Dr) Camillus is the proprietor of the school. The school celebrated her first anniversary in the year 2019 where the proprietor, the founder and other dignitaries were present. The Marist brothers took over the administration of the school from the Acting Principal Mr Sylvester Ukeh in the year 2019. The Marist brothers were three namely:

Rev. Br. Emmanuel Idoko fms (Principal)
Rev. Br. Isaac Ali fms (Dean of Studies) and
Rev. Br. Gabriel Igbonacho (Bursar)

The brothers were not able to continue the management of the school due to the corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic and the management was given to Mrs. Felicia Innocent Akpan as the Vice Principal. During the Bishop’s pastoral visit to the school, due to request by the St. Joseph Community (PTA, Staff and Students) for a principal, the bishop promised to send a priest who will help and contribute so much in the welfare of the school and he fulfilled the promise by sending our humble and intelligent Principal Rev. Fr. Michael Udoh who is doing well towards the development of the school. So, by the grace of God he remains till date working towards the improvement of the school community in glory to God. The principal is making improvement in the school to make the school to be of standard and to compete with other catholic schools.
